Your guide to perfect cherry blossom photos.
Springtime in Utah is one of my most favorite times of the year- it's simply magical! One of the things I look forward to the most every year is when the cherry blossoms bloom at the Capitol. If you're dreaming of soft, romantic photos with pink and white petals, here's what I think you should know before your session.
Dress to impress.
Unfortunately, as much as I wish that they'd last forever, the cherry blossoms are gone in the blink of an eye- usually only a week or two in peak bloom.
Timing is EVERYTHING.
Listen, there is just something about light, flowing outfits in neutral tones or pastels that really just pop against the blossoms in the most beautiful way. Plus, busy patterns might take away from the beauty of the flowers.
Sunrise > Sunset.
Early mornings or evening sessions will give you the softest and most flattering light but trust me when I say that the mornings are way less crowded, so you won't dodging people in the background every two seconds. It's well worth the early wakeup call though!
The photos are worth it. Every time.
The Capitol during cherry blossom season is a popular destination for a reason! If you're flexible with your schedule, weekday sessions usually have fewer visitors than on the weekends. To make the experience enjoyable for everyone, be patient, respect other visitors' space and photo opportunities, and avoid stepping on flower beds.
Expect Some Crowds
Every time I shoot at the Utah Capitol during cherry blossom season I'm reminded why it's worth it. The soft petals, the lighting, and the dreamy backdrop- I mean a girl can't ask for more. These blooms only last a short time but the photos? Those last forever.
